What does the 4th of July mean to you? This coming week is the Anniversary of the day our founding fathers declared our country's independence. It is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies as a new nation, the United States of America, and were no longer part of the British Empire. Celebrate this great holiday thinking of all those who made this nation free, and with this same spirit why not make this the year you declare your own independence day in areas you need to personally be free. What actions do you still need to take to have a healthier and fit body? What changes do you still need to make?
Are you embracing the changes you need to make to be successful in regard to diet and exercise? Or, are you internally fighting them and feeling generally negative about them? When you fight change that is the best for you, you are denying your own personal freedom.
Many people simply fear change even when it's in their best interest. But in reality, in order to really experience life at its fullest, and to be successful at whatever you are trying to change, this fear has to be overcome and dealt with. Only then can we be truly free. Joan Borysenko, Ph.D,  author of Saying Yes to Change: Essential  Wisdom for Your Journey, puts it this way. "Like the acorn that has to die in order to be reborn as an oak tree, we are all in the midst of being transformed."
So why is  change so challenging besides just that fear element? Change means separation from what we are generally comfortable with on a day to day basis. We dislike being out of our own personal comfort zone so to speak. And when losing weight, we certainly know there are numerous changes we have to deal with constantly. Then there's the issue regarding the unknowns that frequently come with these changes. Many of us are so unsure of not knowing what's coming next!
But the reward IS definitely there for us when we continue to persevere. We become empowered, strengthened and literally transformed both physically and emotionally, and even spiritually, and this is what brings you unsurpassed personal freedom. 
I encourage you this 4th of July, first to celebrate all the freedoms we currently enjoy in this great country, but then to continue to pursue your own freedom to be the best you can be by fully accepting change in your own life.
