"I know what to do, I just don't do it."

Written by
The other day I met with a patient I hadn't met before although she had been on the plan well over a month with little weight loss. She wasn't doing well but she did not immediately tell me what the problem was. I kept gently prodding and probing but the only answer she kept repeatedly giving me was, "It’s just me, I know what to do and I just need to do it."
The problem is she really did not know what to do, or what the issue was, or she would be having real progress after that amount of time. The challenge is finding out exactly why, if you know what to do, why aren't you doing it then? We really can help you with that. I compassionately told her that I could not help her if she was unwilling to trust and confide in me and relate to me what her problem was.
The point is if you join a weight loss program for support and accountability, you also need to realize that the people employed there, are available to you for specific help. But you have to let them help you. You have to be a little vulnerable and get that help you need to be successful. You cannot expect success by just coming in for your weekly meetings. Going through the motions won't solve the challenges you have. As doctor Phil says, "You can't change what you don't acknowledge."
"The greatest gift we can give ourselves in times of struggle is the support from those who really understand." -Who can understand better than the staff at CMWM? We are here to give you the help you need.
