Lesson from David Thoreau: on Change

Written by
How about a little philosophical help on change, from Henry David Thoreau (July 12, 1817 – May 6, 1862)? He was an American essayist, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor, and historian. Many aspire to his brilliant ideas. You can too....
Wayne Dyer (May 10, 1940 – August 29, 2015) who was an American philosopher, self-help author, and a motivational speaker, frequently quoted Thoreau's written philophical words for personal growth and motivational purposes. In one of his books, Excuses Begone!, one quote he elaborated on was from Thoreau, and states:
"I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor." Wow, if that is not encouraging, what is?
Wayne Dyer's interpretation of Thoreau's experience while living in the natural world of pure nature, totally detached from the modern world is: "Realize the existence of the unknowable and ecstatic aspect of your existence. Know that this divine element is an intrinsic part of yourself. Begin trusting your underlying nature by becoming conscious."
  • Dyer states that: "Be encouraged to challenge old patterns and feel inspired by true awareness of the divine source with a real consciousness and overcome old self-defeating patterns. Remain connected to the divine energy of the Universe." In other words, even though you have unhealthy eating and other habits that need work, you really can change them. You have to become aware of them first. If you feel you need help with this endeavor don't ever forget we are all connected to God and His power in some way. Know we can tap into this help just by becoming conscious to it. Allow yourself to be supported by this.
  • Dyer states that: "We have the unquestionable ability to eliminate old patterns because they are only old, useless old beliefs from the past buried alive in the subconscious." What he is saying here is that these unhealthy eating habits are usually just that, old bad habits much of the time. They can be exposed and released by choosing to stay in constant awareness. Basically we need to just stay aware of these old habits and old belief systems, and from there we can change them! What hope this really is!
  • Dyer states that: "We elevate our lives by taking full responsibility for who we really are and what we are choosing in every single moment. We transcend the old and worn out ways of the past rather than allow it to continue to deteriorate the quality of our current lives." Here Dyer is simply saying it’s time to take real responsibility for what we are actively CHOOSING what we truly want every day. We really are able to change our choices so we can have a better life state.
  • Dyer states that: "We connect only to our own divine consciousness, by disconnecting from the power of the mistaken untrue subconscious of ego. It no longer runs our lives." In other words, when we connect to a God consciousness, we disconnect from our own egos and we can learn to control our own lives.
So empower yourself, change any unhealthy habits you might be holding on to because of your own humanness. Within you is this power to change!
