Make Peace with Food

At the beginning of a new year many people are determined to lose their weight once and for all. But, you need to ask yourself, what is your relationship with food?

If you don't make peace with your food and constantly make it your enemy, you will continue to fight with it mentally. Frequently you just end up losing that battle because of that. You can lose your self-worth as a person simply because you ate a food that you had labeled as "bad" or "fattening." That seems to make you "bad" then too for some reason just because you made an unhealthy choice. Try not to name food as either bad or good (it's just that some foods are simply healthier than others).

If you have in fact been doing battle with dieting reframe the word "diet." Don't call it that regardless of what diet you are on. Simply call it your food plan. Calling it a diet makes it something you are on or off. It makes it something considered right or wrong, good or bad, black or white.

Instead go with the attitude of eating for health, because ultimately that is the real reason for dieting  anyway. Make food choices that honor your health and taste buds (even while dieting it's still important to make foods taste good!) while making you feel vibrant healthy and well. And remember that you don't always have to eat absolutely perfect all the time. Can anyone really?

While adhering to a stricter food plan will in fact get you quicker results, be careful about a snack, or one meal that is not compliant. It's what you eat over and over time that matters, especially once you are in maintenance and have more wiggle room to have little extras now and then.

Again, I want you to do the best you can while on your CALMWM plan but if you habitually telling yourself yourself that you can't or shouldn't have a particular food, it can lead to overwhelming feelings of deprivation that can ultimately build into those uncontrollable cravings or even, bingeing. What happens when you finally "give-in" to your forbidden food, eating will be experienced with such a frenzy, it usually results in "Thanksgiving holiday" type of overeating, then when it's over its accompanied with overwhelming guilt and remorse, and feeling both mentally physically and emotionally sick.
