Did you know that oxytocin is frequently referred to as "the love hormone" -due to its association with parts of the brain involved in emotional, cognitive and social behaviors? It is also related directly to affection sexual activity, giving birth and breastfeeding.  Basic acts of intimacy, such as sexual intercourse or even just holding hands, stimulate the release of oxytocin in both men and women. And this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of its other effects on other human  behaviors.
