It focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits to reap the great benefits health brings. This year is its 40th anniversary."

Athletes Develop Heart Disease and Diabetes

Written by

Contrary to what you may think about athletes being in great physical shape they can actually have a high risk of developing heart disease and diabetes just like as an overweight and unfit person.

Earlier this week I discussed just a few of the pitfalls of diet drinks. Here are some safe non-chemical alternatives to consume to replace those diet drinks:

  • Try some carbonated water or even regular water and add in mint leaves or flavored extracts made with stevia and numerous other flavors made by Sweet Leaf.
  • Try some 'fruit water.' There's an even a special new gadget, called an infuser water bottle made to help you make it even more convenient and easy to make. It takes on the flavor of the fruit without the calories or the carbs! Do not add the actual juice of any fruit unless it's lemon or lime.
  • The specialty green teas and fruit flavored green tea blends (ice them yourself to avoid any artificial sweetened ones and add stevia instead) are flavorful and as a bonus your green tea actually adds a little metabolic fat burning boost! There are many brands to choose from even in a typical grocery store.
  • Try a little decaffeinated coffee as a better option to most diet beverages. They actually offer you some actual antioxidant benefits. They come in different flavors too, usually with more subtle flavors. But who can resist these from CoffeeAM with names like 'Black Forest Cake,' 'Apricot Cream' or even 'Amaretto.' Grocery stores usually carry their own line but these sound especially enticing!
  • Hint is a fruit enhanced bottled water without any bad additives. La Croix and Zevia are the most chemical free diet sodas I've ever found if you want or need the convenience. These can usually be found in quality health food stores or high-end grocery stores.
  • Teeccini is a so called 'coffee' although it's actually a tea. Some flavors have carbs so count them accordingly.

But for a quicker weight loss, just remember to drink most of your fluids first as pure filtered water. Review your water handout or article on Water and Weight Loss as to why if you've forgotten its importance to your weight loss...and it's not just to simply fill you up!

Are you Hungry When You Diet? - 1

Written by

Eating the correct food choices and the correct amounts of those foods on your CMWM diet plan help keep hunger under control. Additionally, the CMWM's own specialized supplements, the FDA approved appetite suppressants and taking them correctly, on an empty stomach, satisfy hunger. Everything all works synergistically TOGETHER. I am talking about real hunger here, not hunger related to other factors such as watching other people eat food or going to the movies and wanting all the goodies you see and smell the minute you walk in the door. I'm talking about your stomach growling and it feeling really empty an hour after having a meal.

What would Valentine's Day be without chocolate? And who even needs Valentine's day to enjoy chocolate? But for someone losing weight it can be disastrous if we eat too much of it.

Lab Tests for Hearth Health

Written by

The other day I discussed American Heart Month and some of the risk factors (besides being overweight).

Today I want to really emphasize the importance of some basic lab work and a few other considerations regarding heart health, mainly because heart disease is simply not always obvious until the first heart attack! Significantly more important details are in your monthly magazine so make sure you read it this month!

February is American Heart Month

Written by

Are you aware that obesity is probably one of the biggest risk factors related to heart disease?

February is American Heart Month. Few people do not honestly know the magnitude of health problems caused by being overweight and its direct impact on heart health alone. Simply taking off a few pounds can provide cardiovascular benefits, so every step in the right direction is a step toward a healthier you. Even when there are no adverse effects on the known risk factors, obesity by itself increases risk of heart disease.
