Oprah and Dr. Oz Part Ways

Written by

In the latest twist to the ongoing Dr. Oz controversy, Oprah Winfrey has "pulled the plug" on Dr. Oz's radio show. Winfrey's Harpo Productions announced that "The Daily Dose With Dr. Oz" will be replaced with "A Better Life With Dr. Sanjay Gupta."

Dr. Mehmet Oz, who grew to become America's favorite TV doctor on Oprah Winfrey's network, has suffered numerous setbacks due to his controversial claims about diet products. Last year Oz was grilled by Congress over claims about "magic weight loss cures" and "miracles in a bottle."

Before Congress, Dr. Oz denied that he endorsed or received compensation for his product endorsements. But later Oz went on the TV talk shows (during sweeps week) and penned an op-ed in Time magazine defending his product claims as a right to free speech. Citing quack medicine, a number of Oz's colleagues have called for Oz's removal from his academic position at Columbia University. The story of Dr. Oz's fall from grace has fascinated the country, as a respected doctor becomes caught up in quackery, charlatanism and media hype.

At California Medical Weight Management we appreciate the efforts of Dr. Oz to inform the public of the dangers of overweight and obesity. But we rely on established, proved medical science, not junk science. CalMWM has helped over 50,000 patients achieve and maintain their healthy weight.
