All Spiced Up

In the many recipes I produce for CMWM I occasionally include a spice or a spice mix that may not be familiar to all who read and want to try these recipes. Often times I am asked if a particular spice or spice mix is absolutely necessary or if a substitute can be used.

It's time to fire up the BBQ as grilling season will extend from now through mid November. So, how can we be more health minded in our grilling menus? If we have worked so hard to shed a few pounds, we certainly don't want to lose ground with unhealthy BBQ recipes.

As we transition from Spring to Summer, in many parts of the country we experience hotter and hotter temperatures. On these hot days a little refreshment is in order. What Recipe Should I Use?

When it comes time to plan for the week's menus, both for those of us on the CMWM weight management plan and for those who are not (our families and friends), we turn to recipes more often than not to put our shopping list together. Some of us are busy professionals or busy raising families and time is limited for cooking. Some of us love to cook but don't have a lot of time to do it in. Some of us enjoy cooking but are in a rut and benefit by having favorite recipes to rely on. Some of us just plain don't like to cook and need quick and easy recipes to make to help us with the weight management program. And then there are a gazillion other factors that affect our choices in menu planning. Here at the California Medical headquarters we want to hear from you. What works for you and what doesn't.

Swap This For That

Seasonal eating is not only good because buying in season is more economical but produce is at its peak in nutritional value and taste when enjoyed when seasonally available. The "Farm-to-Table" movement is not merely a fad but makes for wise choices in what we consume.

With so many recipes to work with from the library of recipes at CMWM it's about time to share some tips to make cooking easier and more fun. I thought I'd share some tips that anyone can use in home cooking that the professional cooks use routinely to shore up space in a kitchen, multi-task and make some basic tasks a breeze. No need to spend more time in the kitchen than necessary. Enjoy cooking more quickly and efficiently so you can spend more time with friends and family.

Scrap Plants

Last week I discussed 'scrap frugality' or getting creative with utilizing the often overlooked odds and ends of vegetables, the concept of using everything possible. This week I'd like to consider the produce we have that has already begun to sprout before our very eyes or at least think about making starter plants from 'extra' produce we have on hand.
