All Calories are NOT Created Equal!

Everyone has heard that to lose weight it all amounts to “Calories in, calories out.” This means quite simply according to the physics law of thermodynamics that to lose weight you must burn more calories than you consume to lose weight. This certainly has its place in weight loss, you really do have to eat less volume of food to lose weight, but this notion has been highly debated and  needs some elaboration. The quality of the food you eat also matters - a lot. The quality of calories you eat can impact weight management efforts.

March is National Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, "It is a campaign month dedicated to nutrition education and information created annually in March. It focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits to reap the great benefits health brings. This year is its 40th anniversary."

Healthy Food on a Budget, Part 1

At a glance for people who are used to eating highly processed and fast foods, it may seem those foods are cheaper than healthy fresh foods. Today's blog will be part of a two part segment to show you ways to eat healthy on a budget.

The problem is that processed foods and fast foods do not promote health or weight management in a favorable way due to all the sugar, highly refined and processed carbohydrates, additives, chemicals, fat (particularly trans fats), and the high sodium they contain.
