Which Diet Program Really Works?

There are many choices and programs available to dieters. If you are overweight or obese, you may have tried some of these diets already. But which diets really work?

In this CNN Money article, Dr. Adam Tsai, a medical director at the University of Pennsylvania, cites the effectiveness of commercial weight loss programs like Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig. But Fox News reports that Weight Watchers users lose an average of just three pounds over two years. One reason may be the lack of follow-up support.

In a separate Obesity Society study, Dr. Tsai compared the results of a commercial weight loss program - Weight Watchers - to that of a clinic-based program. The study found that "patients in the clinic-based group lost significantly more weight" (10 lbs in the clinic group vs. 1 lb in the Weight Watchers group).
