Keep Your Focus! Be Successful

The other day I had a patient that did not have a good week on her food plan. Like most patients she is a working mom and has numerous priorities in her life. When I asked what happened, her answer was real simple, "I lost my focus."
This happens a lot when people are making changes in their life. They get their momentum going and they are going along smoothly and then a few unexpected things happen (or a holiday event) and they get thrown off.  It's OK. The important thing is to catch yourself while it happening  and then learn to strengthen your focus.
My advice to strengthern your focus is to write down your goals directly in your food diary for the week so you don't forget your objectives. This will help you know what you need to do, and then you can plan accordingly so you don't lose that important laser focus. And when you are focused, this doubles as motivation because you are reminded of exactly why you want to lose your weight. (If you don't stay aware of your important whys, this also contributes to losing focus.)
Writing your goals out has to do with knowing exactly where to direct your energy and not allow yourself to get caught up with spending your time on other meaningless activities. Make your goals very specific and put them on paper or phone where you can see them. This will give you the power in your life. Posting goals helps you  know how to concentrate on what's important in terms of your weight loss and health. Here's a verse which pinpoints the meaning of focus as it relates to success:
The first rule of success, and one that supercedes all others, is to have energy (i.e. focus).
It's important to know how to concentrate it. Focus your energy on important matters instead of frittering it away on meaningless things. 
Nothing will add more power to your life then concentrating all your energies on a limited set of goals.
You must focus the full power of all you are, on what you have a burning desire to achieve if you truly want to be successful. 
Gather in your resources, rally all your faculties, marshal all your energies, focus all your capacities upon attaining your objectives. You must be single minded, and have a strong drive for the things you have decided upon. 
 The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus.
