How To Cope With Stress

Stress pervades most of our lives, but there are a few fairly simple things we can do to reduce stress.

  • Change negative self-talk to positive.
  • Learn to truly relax-meditation is excellent in this regard.
  • Identify sources of stress and determine what you can do to change them and then do it.
  • Accept responsibility for your role in creating or maintaining stress - this will empower you to make decisions that reduce stress, instead of feeling powerless to change anything.
  • Learn to say no.
  • Avoid people and situations that increase your stress level.
  • Express your feelings.
  • Be willing to compromise.
  • Accept an unalterable situation.
  • Adopt time-management strategies.
  • Look at the big picture.
  • Stop being a perfectionist.
  • Concentrate on the positive.
  • Get outside and be active (a walk in a park; a game of catch with a friend).
  • Connect with others who make you feel good.
  • Do something enjoyable every day, no matter how small.
  • Remember to laugh.
  • Be grateful for all that is positive and wonderful in your life.
